The Story

A grey hair. A confession. A history that refuses to stay buried.

"Revolutions start in the mind."

On a rain-soaked Monday in New York, history lecturer Darius finds a single grey hair — and knows, with sinking certainty, that the life he has carried for seventeen centuries is finally beginning to end.

He has one task left: pass on what he knows. He chooses Daniel, an unassuming but brilliant student, and hands him a six-inch binder of memoirs dating back to 312 AD — first-hand accounts of the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, the sack of Rome, the pilgrimages of the Middle Ages, the conquest of a new world, and the trenches and beachheads of a century of war.

Told across empires, revolutions, and battlefields, Infinitum asks what a single consciousness might learn — and what it might owe the living — after two thousand years of watching history repeat itself. Part war epic, part philosophical thriller, it is a novel about memory, faith, power, and the very human hope that this time, we might listen.

What's Inside

Four threads run through every age

War

From Roman legions to the beaches of Anzio — battle as the great unchanging constant of human history.

Politics & Power

Empires rise on ambition and fall on the same mistakes, watched by one man who has seen it all before.

Religion & Belief

Faith as the force that builds civilisations, breaks them, and carries them through the dark ages between.

Immortality

What does one soul owe the world, when it is the only one that remembers?

The Author

Rory McGarry

Raised in the small harbour village of Monkstown, Cork, on the south coast of Ireland, Rory has always been pulled toward the horizon. At eighteen, he joined the Irish Defence Forces and served four years as an infantry soldier, including deployments to South Lebanon and a six-month tour of Kosovo at the turn of the century.

Those years of travel and military service shaped the way he sees the world — and sparked the imagination behind Infinitum. He continues to travel widely, drawn to places of historical significance, where he says the past has a way of telling him its own stories.

Rory lives on the Irish coast with his wife, Fatima, and their two sons, Liam and Yago. Infinitum is his debut novel.

"To my wonderful wife, Fatima, and my two boys, Liam and Yago — my source of pride and inspiration. And for you, the reader, whom I hope to inspire."

Why Read It

A different kind of historical epic

01

A sweeping historical scope

From the fall of Rome to the trenches of a modern war, told through the eyes of someone who was actually there — every time.

02

Big philosophical questions

What does memory owe the living? Infinitum uses reincarnation as a lens on power, faith, and whether history has to repeat itself.

03

Grounded in real experience

Rory McGarry served as an infantry soldier in Lebanon and Kosovo — the novel's battlefields carry the weight of lived detail.
